WHY BOTHER INTEGRATING ICT?
Teachers are no longer the "Content Deliverers" - students have access to content in their mobile phones, iPads and computers. The online world gives us access to tutorials, videos, blogs and forums. These are places where students can connect, collaborate and learn. This does not mean students don't need teachers! Teachers need to change their "Sage on the Stage" mindset to one of a "Master Learner" - not only do we need to model traditional methods of researching, experimenting and inquiry for our students but we also need to be role models with our use of social and digital technologies. Think about the "digital footprint"
"Chris Lehmann likes to say that we don’t teach subjects, we teach kids. And I’ll add to that: we teach kids to learn. We can’t teach kids to learn unless we are learners ourselves, and our understanding of learning has to encompass the rich, passion-based interactions that take place in these social learning spaces online. Sure, I expect my daughter’s science teacher to have some content expertise around science, no doubt. But more, I expect him to be able to show her how to learn more about science on her own, without him, to give her the mindset and the skills to create new science, not just know old science"

WILL RICHARDSON TALKS ABOUT THE EDUCATIONAL SHIFT
WHY SCHOOL?
School is an important place of learning but is it meeting the needs of 21st Century students? Will Richardson advocates that teachers need to change their mindset. He states "....content is everywhere" this means students are able to self-educate when it comes to acquiring knowledge. However, you need more than content knowledge to survive. Teachers must change their mind set to be one of the "Master Learner" who models how they researcher, experiment and inquire just like students of today do!
In regards to the Will Richardson quote above, where he talks about wanting his daughter's Science Teacher to "...give her the mindset and the skills to create new science, not just know old science." I believe this article is a great demonstration of this.
